In a milestone moment, Tata Motors initiates production at recently acquired Sanand plant, formerly owned by Ford India. The new facility, under Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, enhances production capacity by 3 lakh units annually. The plant, now retooled, will manufacture both internal combustion and electric vehicles.

Tata’s strategic move to acquire the Sanand facility in January 2023 has borne fruit, with the first batch featuring the sleek Tata Nexon hitting the roads. Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, expresses pride, emphasizing the speedy retooling achieved within 12 months. The plant’s versatile setup accommodates existing models and paves the way for future additions.
State-of-the-Art Modifications:
The revamped facility boasts significant enhancements, including new dies for stamping, increased automation with additional robots, and modifications to the assembly shop. This infusion of technological upgrades aligns with Tata’s vision to create space for upcoming models, such as the Punch EV, Sierra EV, Harrier EV, the Curvv, and more.

Acknowledging the crucial role played by the Government of Gujarat, Chandra expresses gratitude for their unwavering support. The Sanand facility, Tata’s second in Gujarat, signals a pivotal step in reducing waiting periods and facilitating the brand’s aggressive expansion plans. With an annual production capacity of 4.20 lakh units, Tata aims to meet the growing demand and roll out an impressive lineup of new models.
